Do you need to have easier gears to better enjoy the hills?
We are seeing a lot of beginner riders riding up some pretty big hills (and this is a good thing) but in a gear that looks too hard to push. It may well be the rider’s lowest gear they have – the smaller, or smallest, chainring on the front and the biggest cog/sprocket on the back – but if the cadence is too low it can cause damage to the knees. Time to speak to your LBS (local bike shop) to ensure you have the optimum gears for you to enjoy your ride. ‘Just push harder’ has been replaced by a better availability of gear.
